First release: 01.000.000. Play on Lichess, train with puzzles and watch live games on a PS5, at 4K and 60 frames per second. The source code is coming soon. Please report problems through GitHub issues.
A native Lichess client for PlayStation 5 homebrew
Play online, train with puzzles and watch live games from the couch, with a
board rendered in OpenGL 4.6 and controls built for the DualSense.
Demo available by clicking the image below.
- Lichess on your TV: play rated or casual games against people, challenge Stockfish at eight levels, resume your ongoing and correspondence games, and watch Lichess TV. Moves go straight to lichess.org through its public Board API.
- Sign in with your phone: scan a QR code, authorize on Lichess and the console signs itself in. A personal API token typed on the on-screen keyboard works too.
- Puzzles online and offline: the Daily Puzzle and rated Puzzle Training come from Lichess; Puzzle Streak, Puzzle Storm and Puzzle Themes run offline on a built-in pack of 101,888 puzzles across 73 themes.
- Pass & Play: two players on one controller, with the board turning to face the side on move and the game saved as you play.
- Your board, your pieces: seven boards in wood, marble and flat colours, the cburnett, merida and chessnut piece sets, coordinates, legal-move dots, premoves and promotion choices.
- Sound and feel: 66 sound effects for moves, captures, checks, results and the interface, a four-song soundtrack, and controller vibration on captures, checks and results, each with its own setting.
- Motion everywhere: an opening title, animated screen transitions, pieces dealt onto the board, gliding moves, capture bursts and check and checkmate ripples, at 4K and 60 frames per second.
- A console interface with a look of its own: a rail down the left with the app's mark and a sign for every page, a colour and a sky for each part of the app, lit panels, ratings drawn as lines over time, a focus that glides and screens that assemble, frosted dialogs, and controller hints on every screen.
Important
ProsperoLichess does not run on an unmodified retail console. It is intended for consoles you own with an already configured, compatible homebrew loader. Online modes need a Lichess account and an internet connection. This repository does not include an exploit, proprietary Sony SDK, system module, encryption key or firmware file.
| Group | Mode | Needs |

Note
ProsperoLichess is an unofficial client. It uses the public Lichess API and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Lichess. Online modes need the console to reach lichess.org; Puzzle Streak, Storm and Themes and Pass & Play work offline.
Important
Built on the PS5 Native App Boilerplate. ProsperoLichess keeps the template's C++20 structure, reproducible runtime, native FSELF tooling, tests and safe folder deployment.
Important
Rendering uses ps5-opengl. The app creates an OpenGL 4.6 Core context through EGL and links the ps5-opengl SDK 1.0.0 statically.
Once per launch the app asks homebrew.page whether a newer release is listed
(one HTTPS GET of https://homebrew.page/api/v1/apps/PPSA99009.json, without
your Lichess token) and shows a notification for ten seconds if there is one.
It downloads and installs nothing.
Networking uses libcurl with OpenSSL over the console's own sockets and certificate list, with the system HTTP service kept as a fallback. The chess rules, move generation and notation are the app's own.

- A side rail on every page: Home, Puzzles, Play, Watch, Profile and Settings. It tells you when a game waits for your move, when the console is offline and when you are not signed in.
- Today's Daily Puzzle, your ratings with their line over time and latest change, and a shelf of things to continue: games in progress, a saved Pass & Play game, your best Streak and Storm, and what is on Lichess TV.
- A status strip with the page's name, the connection state and your account.
- Find an opponent at 10+0, 10+5 or 15+10 (rapid), 30+0 or 30+20 (classical), or three days per move (correspondence), rated or casual. The ticket for the next game shows your rating at that speed.
- Play Stockfish on lichess.org at levels 1 to 8, at 5+3, 10+0, 10+5, 15+10, 30+0 or without a clock, as White, Black or a random side.
- Resume any game in progress from Home or Profile, including correspondence games and games started on another device, each with the time left.
- Clocks as large digits over a level that drains, the side to move lit, the last move marked and a note when a king is in check.
- Premoves, a promotion picker (or always a queen), legal-move dots and coordinates.
- Step back and forward through the moves while the game goes on.
- Offer a draw, ask for a takeback, answer the opponent's offers, abort before the game starts, resign by holding a button, and claim victory when the opponent leaves.
- Results with their reason (checkmate, resignation, time out, stalemate, repetition, the fifty-move rule, insufficient material, agreement), then a new game, a review of the moves, or the menu.
- Two players share one controller, with no account and no connection.
- The board turns to face the side to move; turning can be switched off.
- Take back a move, flip the board, step through the move history.
- The game is saved as you play and offered again on Home and Play.
- Daily Puzzle: the puzzle every Lichess player gets today, set against your puzzle rating.
- Puzzle Training: endless puzzles for your level; signed in, every result counts for your Lichess puzzle rating, and it works without an account too.
- Puzzle Streak: puzzles of rising difficulty; one mistake ends the run and you get a single skip.
- Puzzle Storm: three minutes on the clock; combos add time and a mistake costs ten seconds.
- Puzzle Themes: 73 themes at four difficulties, or mixed themes.
- Streak, Storm and Themes use a built-in pack of 101,888 puzzles from the Lichess puzzle database and need no connection.
- A hint in two steps (the piece, then the move), the full solution, retry, next puzzle and board flip.
- Your best streak, best storm and puzzles solved are kept on the console, and a new record is celebrated.
- Lichess TV on six channels: Top rated, Bullet, Blitz, Rapid, Classical and Chess960.
- The game on air with both players, their ratings and clocks, the last move and a material bar; a full-screen view with the moves since you tuned in.
- Flip the board, change channel with one button; the feed reconnects by itself.
- Sign in by scanning a QR code with your phone (Lichess OAuth with PKCE: your password never touches the console), or with a personal API token typed on the on-screen keyboard and masked as you type.
- Your account with games played, time played and a ring of wins, draws and losses; a tile per rating (bullet, blitz, rapid, classical, correspondence, puzzles) with its line over time.
- Your games in progress, and sign-out by holding a button.
- A 4K board at 60 frames per second: seven boards (Walnut, Maple, Marble, Classic, Ocean, Meadow, Twilight) and three piece sets (cburnett, merida, chessnut).
- Pieces dealt onto the board, gliding moves, capture bursts, check and checkmate ripples, and confetti for a win.
- An opening title that continues the launch picture, animated transitions between screens, panels that arrive in sequence and numbers that count up.
- 66 sound effects, a four-song soundtrack in a new order at each launch, and controller vibration on captures, checks and results.
- Board: appearance, piece set, coordinates, legal-move dots.
- Play: always promote to a queen, premoves, confirm resignation.
- Sound: separate volumes for music, game sounds and interface sounds.
- Controller: swap Cross and Circle, vibration.
- Display: resolution (1080p, 1440p or 4K, applied at once), a frame counter, reduced motion.
- About: version and credits.
- Every category shows a live preview of what its settings do; changes apply at once and are saved on the console.
- Launch artwork, icon and selection music on the PS5 home screen.
- Controller hints at the bottom of every screen.
- A notice when the connection is lost; the offline modes keep working.
- A notification when a newer release is listed on homebrew.page.
- Sign-in, settings, records and the saved game live in the title's
/download0storage and survive updates.
The offline modes, the Daily Puzzle, Puzzle Training, Lichess TV, the sign-in screens, every setting and the three picture sizes were exercised on PS5 hardware at 4K with scripted runs, at a steady 60 frames per second. Online games, sign-in and rated puzzles depend on lichess.org and have had less testing than the offline modes. This is a first release: please report what you find through GitHub issues.

Open Profile in the side rail and choose Sign in. ProsperoLichess shows a QR code: scan it with a phone on the same network, sign in to Lichess and press Authorize, and the console finishes signing in on its own. It uses Lichess OAuth with PKCE, so your password never touches the console. Choose "Use a token instead" to type a personal API token with the on-screen keyboard; it is masked as you type. The app asks only for what it uses: playing games, puzzles and challenges. Sign out from Profile by holding the Sign out button.

The source code is coming soon. Until it is published, this repository holds
the release downloads, this README, the icon and
sce_sys/param.json, which
homebrew.page reads. The licence texts of the
components the app uses ship inside the release, in assets/licenses/.
sce_sys/param.json holds the application's identity and
version. Its PS5-format contentVersion is shown in Settings, is the release
tag and is the release name. There is no v prefix.
The title ID PPSA99009 stays the same for every update, so an update keeps
your sign-in, saves and settings.
